How is Everything DiSC used as coaching and learning tool?

Whether you are an Executive Coach, a mentor, a Facilitator or a Trainer asking your learners to take an Everything DiSC assessment can really help to kick start a conversation around the impact of behaviour in the workplace.

Using an assessment, based on over 40 years of research, each learner answers a set of questions based on their self-perception of how they tend to behave across a range of situations in the workplace. This results in a highly personalised report which gives insight into the learner’s behavioural preferences and tendencies based on the DiSC (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Conscientiousness) behavioural model. The model consists of twelve distinct behaviour types and explores how someone with the type may be perceived by others.

The key to really benefiting from the report is to understand two key cornerstone principles. Firstly, that everyone is a blend of all of the DiSC styles and secondly, that there is no preferred style for a particular role. All styles are of equal value. Everything DiSC does not measure how competent someone is in their role.

The DiSC report can be used in a variety of situations. Many use the reports as an integral part of their training programmes to explore the behavioural aspects of interactions with colleagues and customers. Others use them on a one-to-one as a coaching tool.

However they are used, it is important that the coach, trainer or facilitator has a good understanding of the model, the underpinning theory and how best to use the information. This will minimise the chance of misuse, either by unnecessary stereotyping or by using knowledge of a DiSC style as an excuse for poor behaviour.

There is no requirement to be formally certified to use the range of Everything DiSC assessments although this is available to those who want to gain in-depth knowledge and a recognised accreditation. Many coaches and trainers who do not want to take on the commitment, either of time or cost, prefer to join the DISCGB Accreditation programme. This is a quick start programme which is designed for those who are more experienced in coaching and training. At the end of two half-day virtual workshops you will gain both confidence and competence in using the full range of Everything DiSC and The Five Behaviours assessments.
